COPS rounded up 63 Romanian beggars yesterday — and handed out FREE flights home. Police and immigration officials swooped at 4am on the squalid camp of Roma gypsies sleeping rough in London’s posh Park Lane. The gang — dossed down on the West End road’s central reservation — were herded to a mobile police station set up at nearby Marble Arch.

Radu Vasile, who died of colon cancer on 3 June, was a former Romanian prime minister who helped pave the way for his country's accession to the European Union but was finally brought down by political feuding and protests against economic reforms he struggled to implement. Vasile became prime minister in April 1998. Among his other achievements was mediating a violent miners' protest at the Cozia Monastery halfway through a march to the capital on which they had threatened to rampage.

Airplain crash-lands at San Francisco airport

A Boeing 777 aircraft has crash-landed at San Francisco international airport. There is no word so far on casualties. Pictures posted on Twitter showed passengers jumping down the inflatable emergency slides and leaving the area, as plumes of smoke rise from the plane.

PODGORICA, Montenegro -- Romania is sending planes to bring home survivors of a bus crash that killed 18 tourists in central Montenegro.

A military aircraft arrived in Montenegro's capital Podgorica on Monday, where 29 people have been hospitalized, including a Montenegrin child who was hurt at the site of the crash, officials said. Four remain in critical condition.

Romanian singer Alexandra Stan, well known to international audiences for her hits like Mr. Saxobeat and Lollipop, says she was beaten by her manager after an argument about the artist’s revenues.

The 24-year old singer, who made her debut several years ago, accuses her manager Marcel Prodan, who is also her boyfriend, of having beaten her up, and revealed that she has suffered abusive treatment over the last year, according to Romanian tabloid Cancan. Prodan discovered her and helped her achieve success.

EU to end mobile roaming charges next year

Consumers will next year be able to use their mobile phones across the European Union for the same price as at home, it is planned, after officials voted to fast-track major reforms of telecoms regulation.

Roaming fees for voice calls, texts and internet access will effectively be completely scrapped under the proposals, which are part of a broader effort to create a single European telecoms market.

VIDEO: A fourth division fixture in Romania between Chisoda and Sannicolaul Mare was momentarily suspended after riot police carried out an armed search for a player suspected of multiple crimes.

As you can see from the above footage - taken by a spectator at the game on his mobile phone - armed police stormed the pitch during the game and forcing all of the participants and substitutes onto the ground, hands on their heads.
